Pattern mix up

Ryan thinks its really funny to take these not so fabulous photos of me, but since I am pretty goofy anyway I let it slip into a blog post, plus Ryan says they are his favorite so I let him have one!

I have been seeing this dress all over the inter webs, and I have been on the fence for the entire summer.  When it finally went on sale I decided to snag it up, and when my package arrived it did not disappoint.  I love the light weight gingham fabric and the fact that this is loose fitting perfect for these high temps we have been having lately.  I wore this to the movies this weekend and decided to pair it with a striped sweater.  I swear theaters are like sub zero in the summer, I have grown accustomed to layering all my outfits, it makes it easier to transition from sub zero inside temps to ten million degrees outside.  Since I had already added the strips why not throw in some polkadot Keds.  All I am missing is my signature leopard print.

Random story about Keds and my childhood,  growing up I had really narrow feet (still have really narrow feet) and I had the hardest time finding shoes.  I remember the only shoes I could find that fit me were white Keds, and being in 1st and 2nd grade I was not happy about this.  I started to hate them begging my mom to let me get anything else, until they came out with a splatter paint pair which I thought was basically the best pair of shoes ever!  Anyway once my feet became a more normal size I got to be like the cool kids and wear Nike/Reebock etc.  I ended up hating Keds, refusing to ever wear them again.  Funny how many years later they seem to be making a come back and now I have 3 pair..including a white pair.  I guess my mom was on to something, because they seriously fit like a dream and are super cute, especially the Kate spade collaboration pairs, I keep seeing so many that I want to own!!

Encourage Beauty

Monday, August 25, 2014

This week on Instagram Hillary Rushford of Dean Street Society has teamed up with some other great women to encourage beauty starting today for a week. I love how she does these monthly prompts to allow you to get the most out of your closet.  This week is a little different in that we are uplifting each other.  I have really gained a lot of confidence in my style from doing these monthly challenges.  I feel like I have created a great circle of friends and made some new ones along the way, which ultimately led to me getting enough confidence to start my blog.  I don't know if anyone actually reads it but I am trying to build up the courage to start promoting it more...but baby steps!!!

I have always loved fashion, ever since I can remember.  My style is all over the place and that is what I think I like the most about it, it's ever changing just like me.  I have always taken pride in my image and I think this stems from something negative.  Growing up I was teased heavily, to the point I would cry every night and pretend that I was sick just to try and convince my parents that I should stay home.  I was the subject of some major teasing from about middle school until I left for college from how I looked, talked and dressed.  College was where I grew as a person, I took it as an opportunity to leave my bad skin and style in the past and start new with a group of people who didn't know me.  College for me was my game changer.

I started finding my style and groove.  I stopped trying to care what others said or thought about me and it really changed how I felt about myself.  I had to learn to love myself and there are days I still struggle with this, but I know not everyone is going to like my style or even me.  I think over more posts I will share how my negative experiences have influenced me but for now I want to focus on todays prompt Makes me feel girly!

Lets be honest, it's no secret that I LOVE Eliza J dresses!! So when I got the email from Dillards saying they were having their additional 30% off of sale items I knew I would be cleaning out their Eliza J department.  This beauty was the last one in my size (65% off with an addition 30% off) and I just had to have it.  The silhouette makes me feels so dainty.  The fit and flare style gives me the illusion of a tiny waist while covering the areas I don't care for, the perfect dress!!  So here it is my favorite polka dot girly dress!

P.S.  If you are on Instagram I encourage you to follow along and participate in Hillary Rushford's style challenges, you will discover a new you (and closet) plus meet some great people along the way!!

Accessorizing in Color

this would be both heels sinking into the ground and me almost doing a back bend over this fence!

being goofy again!

So I have been MIA lately, but for good reason.  I was bit by the crafting bug and have been sewing and painting my little heart out!  I will share the fruits of my labor in a later post, but for a sneak peak head on over to my IG feed and you can see two of the projects I have undertaken this week!

For my outfit post I opted for this tea length dress that has beautiful detailing at the top, I felt it complimented my new KAREN WALKER SUNNIES that are on MAJOR MAJOR SALE!!  I feel like an official blogger!  Now all I need is a Starbucks coffee in my hand!  To add some color, because as Kate spade says "Live Colorfully" I added these super comfy Joie heels I snagged at 50% off from DSW and my favorite bag Mr. Phillip.  Nothing screams color like a bright orange bag!

Side note: Has anyone tried the new Sally Hansen nail polish that lasts up to 14 days?  I LOVE it, I can get a full week out of it and longer if I am not crafting.  I highly recommend this polish for an inexpensive gel alternative.  And it comes in tons of colors!!

birds of a feather...

Here is another outfit that you can easily take from the office to a dinner out with the boy, or drinks with the girls.  I really love this skirt it makes me want to twirl around, but in these heels I would likely fall and cause a scene!

Once again L. Mae boutique nailed it with an ultra feminine skirt that I paired with this breezy white top from Forever 21.  I like skirts that have color in them, it makes it easier to pair it with a solid top (especially a top you already have in your closet).

Its almost Friday!  I hope that you all have something fun planned for this weekend!

Top: Forever 21 (old), similar, love
Skirt: L. Mae Boutique
Earrings: From a local boutique (old), love these

Red, White, and Blue

Happy Hump Day!!!

This past week while cursing through instagram pictures I stumbled upon the cutest boutique L. Mae Boutique.  What made it better was that they were having a 1/2 off sale!  So instantly I filled my shopping basket with skirts and dresses.  I finally decided on 3 dresses a gorgeous white floral print fit and flare dress (to come in a later post), this red number, a green dress, and lastly a skirt with cute birds on it.

Well my package arrived yesterday and it did not disappoint... ok well it did for all of 2 seconds when the green dress I ordered was out of stock, but the sweet note saying they will honor one item from their shop 1/2 off made up for it.  The dresses and skirt were even better than I had imagined, the details were right on point and the hand written note just put this mail day up there with the best ones.

I decided to style the red, white, and blue dress with a white striped cardigan and some comfy flats for work, an outfit that I could easily transition into a dinner or night out with friends.  Plus I always get cold so having a cute sweater is always a necessity for me!

Snake Print

I stumbled across this dress on the clearance racks, and for under $35.00 I couldn't say no.  This is not typically a print or style I would normally gravitate towards, but I felt like this dress was sexy and sophisticated all in one easy dress.  I added some long necklaces that I layered, with a simple understated wedge sandal.  To top it off I added smoldering eye makeup and a soft curl to my hair for a boho chic look that I could take from the office to a night out.
