Dress: Trina Turk(on Sale) // Button down: J Crew factory from a LONG time ago, similar here //necklace: J.Crew (no longer available), similar // tights: Target // boots: Tory Burch (old), new version here // Belt:ADA //

If you know me then you know that there isn't a pattern or color that I don't love!  I think one of the
tricky things about Texas is the ever changing weather... I am always looking to maximize my closet and breath new life into things I have had for ages-enter me layering and mixing everything!

One of my favorite ways to get lots of wear out of my summer dresses is to layer other pieces with them, like this plaid button down.  Not only does it take the summer dress straight into winter but you also get an updated look.

I always get asked how to mix prints and I don't think there is a right or wrong way to go about this, but my rule of thumb is keep one of them a little more simplistic either in the color pallet or design and then take a completely different pattern and incorporate it into the look in a smaller dose.  For instance my dress is black and white but still a little busy, add the darker plaid button down underneath and cuff the sleeves so a little less plaid shows through and you still show a little skin.  I added black accessories to the look, a belt to break up some of the pattern and add texture and black tights with tall boots to keep things simple.

I love how the look turned out preppy and modern all in one easy look that maximizes pieces you already have in your closet!  So if you have ever wanted to try print mixing here is an easy way to get started!

Happy Print Mixing!
